Locating the Animal Protective League
From the North
:
Coming to Springfield from the North on Interstate 55, take the Sherman Exit (No. 105) and proceed south on Business Route 55. When you reach the intersection where Business 55 goes to the left, continue straight on Illinois 4, Veterans Parkway. Soon after you begin on Veterans, turn left, the first exit, at 8th Street. At the stop sign, turn left and go about 2/10s of a mile. Waggin' Tails shelter is on your left (north), and the northernmost boundary of the Illinois State Fairgrounds is on your right. A large gray/white house sits in front of the shelter. The office/visitor entrance is at the most southerly end of the shelter building.
From the East:
Coming to Springfield from the East on Interstate 72 or Illinois 29 , turn north on Interstate 55 until reaching the Sangamon Avenue exit. Proceed west on Sangamon Avenue for a little more than 2 miles until reaching the intersection of Peoria Road/Business Route 55. (This is at the southeast corner of the Illinois State Fairgrounds.) Turn right, proceeding north on Peoria Road for almost 3 miles, where you will reach the intersection of Taintor Road. Turn left (west) and proceed about 2/10s of a mile. Waggin' Tails shelter is on the right, and the northernmost boundary of the Illinois State Fairgrounds is on the left. A large gray/white house sits in front of the shelter. The office/visitor entrance is at the most southerly end of the shelter building

From the South
A . Coming to Springfield from the South on Interstate 55, proceed as in directions for arrival from the East, getting off I-55 at Sangamon Avenue, going north on Peoria Road/Business Route 55 for almost 3 miles. Turn left (west) on Taintor Road and proceed for 2/10s of a mile to Waggin' Tails shelter.
B. If approaching Springfield on Highway 4, Veterans Parkway, proceed north on
Veterans until reaching the 8th Street exit, where one should exit to the east. At the stop
sign, turn left and proceed 2/lOs of a mile. Waggin' Tails shelter is on the left, and the northernmost boundary of the Illinois State Fairgrounds is on the right. A large gray/white house sits in front of the shelter. The shelter office/visitor entrance is at the most southerly end of the shelter building.
From the West:
Coming to Springfield from the West on Interstate 72, (U.S. 36) take the Highway 4 (Veterans Parkway) exit north. Proceed north on Veterans Parkway for 8.4 miles until reaching the 8th Street exit, where you should exit to the east (right). At the stop sign, turn left and proceed 2/10s of a mile. Waggin' Tails shelter is on the left, and the Illinois State Fairgrounds is on the right. A large gray/white house sits in front of the shelter. The shelter office/visitor entrance is at the most southerly end of the shelter building.
